Sexiest Fringe? Not yet.

If you've been away for a couple of weeks - or addicted to the sexiest Olympics ever then you won't have seen how Fringe 2010 has been developing in leaps and bounds but not on blades or tin trays.

You may have found your way here via the new Fans of the Fringe Facebook page which is far too exciting and innovative for me to keep up with. If it's the young and the beautiful you want to be with - then haste ye away; but not before digesting some small gobbets of news here.

Fringe 2010 has already set a record with 62 entries before the end of February (up by 25% on this time last year). Should the Buxton Festival Fringe continue to expand at this rate then it will be making a takeover bid for Edinburgh around about 2017.

We ought to let you know that the Buxton Opera Festival programme is now out - and booking opens very, very soon. If you can't get a hand on the printed programme then trywww.buxtonfestival.co.uk Amongst the exciting music-making you'll spot a couple of familiar Fringe names. Local poet Philip Holland will be sharing some of his latest work at the Lee Wood Hotel on 15th July. Sadly this keeps him from the Fringe for this year. Congratulations though Philip. Among the walks on offer is The Devonshires in Buxton led by Jennie Ainsworth on 12th and 22nd July - starting from Project X at mid-day. Now Jennie has boundless energy and enthusiasm and is one of the 62 entrants for the Fringe where she'll be leading her much-loved Vera Brittain's Buxtonwalk.

Among the Fringe favourites returning for 2010 are the High Peak Orchestra, a new show from Three's Company, Partita (doing three concerts - a kind of On Tour for Partita), City of Manchester Opera, the local close-up magicians, Morris dancers from all over England...

Too many to go into great detail here. Once you've finished blogging and facebooking do a bit of surfing at www.buxtonfringe.org.uk  What with all the electronic communication it is a wonder any work gets done.

Happily Fringe entrants have been working very hard and from next week we'll start to preview this year's Fringe in a slightly more systematic fashion. Before then we need to get our breath back. Meantime get out your calendars and diaries for July and start making plans.
